Chinese templesThe Chinese have been living in Malacca for centuries. Even during the Malacca Sultanate, there has been relation with China right from the time of Parameswara. On this page I list out all the Chinese temples in Malacca that I have documented. I use the term "Chinese temple" to denote both the Buddhist as well as Taoist temples of Malacca.Within a Buddhist temple, you will be able to see images, that is to say, statues, of the Buddha. In some cases, you will come across the Kuan Yin, or goddess of mercy as well, which is an element of Mahayana Buddhism. The Kuan Yin, which originates from India as the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, are beings that have achieved Enlightenment, but has delayed their entry into nirvana in order to help mankind.
